Concept#

Form a company to produce what will be the reference platform for digital media content providers (i.e. IPTV). Middleware for connecting streaming media servers and customers has generally been a proprietary and expensive software product. A low cost reference platform is desired by all content providers. Microsoft is the biggest name currently attempting to provide such middleware. However, Microsoft's business practices and resulting reputation undermine its ability to be widely accepted. Our company will provide a collection of middleware components that will integrate the best available, low cost (or opensource) solutions. Revenue will be generated by selling commercial use licenses and services around these components including consulting to integrate these components with proprietary streaming media servers and media information databases.

Digital Media Stream Scheduler#

The first component to be crafted by The Company will be a media scheduling application. This application will combine the latest technology with an excellent user experience. AJAX (also known as Web 2.0 and other names) will be used along with XML based web services to provide both an API for programmatic access to the schedule information, and a beautiful, responsive and powerful user interface.

Additional Components#

Over time, additional components will be added: media catalog, media stream transcoding, streaming server, electronic program guide (for set top box systems and general streaming clients.)

Component Licensing#

The Company will distribute it's code as a feature limited, non-commercial use only product, under the GPL. A commercial license will be sold with pricing on a per module basis, as well as pricing for different levels of support.
